  • June 27, 2009: A new 2009 Series of American Girl Trading Cards has been released. It features 189 cards of which 31 are for the new 1914 girl, Rebecca Rubin. I updated the Trading Cards page to add full details and I uploaded the brand new Rebecca Trading cards page.

  • May 24th, 2009: I have created a page for Rebecca Rubin. It is mostly empty since the items in her collection have not yet been announced.

  • May 19th, 2009: Really Big News! As most AG collectors may have heard, a new historical girl from a brand new historical era is coming on May 30th. She is Rebecca Rubin and she is from 1914. Rebecca lives in a row house in New York's bustling Lower East Side with her Russian-Jewish family. Rebecca dreams of being an actress one day, but her parents and grandparents have different ideas of what a young lady should do. Growing up in the "melting pot" of the early 20th century, Rebecca learns about the various traditions that her neighbors and schoolmates celebrate. Her books are written by Jacqueline Dembar Greene are their titles are: Meet Rebecca, Changes for Rebecca, Candlelight for Rebecca, Rebecca to the Rescue, Rebecca and Ana and Rebecca and the Movies.

I have not been able to update this site recently because I have been insanely busy. On April 25th, I released online a 29-minute animated STAR TREK episode that I wrote, illustrated, animated, voiced and sound engineered single-handedly over the last 28 months or so. I intend to update this site shortly.

  • January 1st, 2009: Happy New Year! The year 2009 brings new items for Kit and news of Chrissa Maxwell's collection. Kit has a new Reporter Outfit and Play Outfit and a new Reporter Set. Chrissa - American Girl of 2009 - has two friend dolls! They are Gwen and Sonali.

2008 Changes

  • December 20, 2008: I've updated the Wish List page to include Chrissa. I also updated the Girls of Today (Just Like You) page to include a picture of the Chrissa doll (see right) and her movie DVD which comes out in less than three weeks!

  • December 7, 2008: I've finally updated the Wish List page to include all of the new items. Whew! Feel free to use it to make your X-mas Lists!

  • November 28, 2008: I've once again added a Christmas theme to this site. Happy Holidays!

  • October 24, 2008: Big News! Next year's Limited Edition Girl of Today is Chrissa Maxwell. Chrissa arrives January 2009 and she has a DVD movie about her! Chrissa Maxwell was first unveiled to advertising professionals in October 2008. Chrissa and her collection haven't officially been released yet, but they are scheduled for January 6, 2009. She will likely be available for only one year. I added some information about her story and her DVD to the Girls of Today (Just Like You) page. In the DVD movie, Chrissa is portrayed by Sammi Hanratty (pictured right) who currently plays the role of young Chuck Charles in the excellent Pushing Daisies television series. No images of the Chrissa doll or her collection are available yet. I will update this site as details are revealed.

I also updated the Girls of Today (Just Like You) page to include several new outfits and accessories.

  • October 7, 2008: Terrible News Indeed! I have received confirmation from American Girl Company that, I quote, "Samantha's complete collection - including Nellie and her accessories - will be moving to the American Girl archives." The actual letter can be read here. An official announcement will be made Monday October 13th. I , for one, am very saddened at this drastic retirement. It was my daughter's interest in obtaining some of Samantha's retired items back in 2002 that started me to research historical AG items eventually resulting in my creating this site. Sam will be missed. There is no news as to whether any other girls are due to be "archived." I will update this site as details are revealed.

  • October 1, 2008: Kit's theatrical movie is coming to DVD from New Line Cinema October 29th. I added an image to this page and to Kit's page.

  • September 19, 2008: A large number of new historical and modern outfits, accessories and furniture have been released. I have updated the historical doll pages to reflect this. The most exciting part is that Addy, Kirsten, Josefina and Felicity got new outfits along with Kit, Ruthie, Sam and Molly. Also, Kaya finally got a new accessory - Kaya's animals (pictured).

  • August 9, 2008: I have not been able to update this site recently because I have been insanely busy. Currently, there are several projects occupying my time. I am working on creating a 30-minute animated STAR TREK episode single-handedly. I just finished a 7-minute short animated STAR TREK film and another short film based on Frank Miller's Sin City. I am also working backstage at my local theater company's performances of a play and will also do so on the next play. At work I've been promoted to a lead position which comes with more responsibility and more to occupy my mind. I also have been re-elected as president of the local branch of the California Writers Club with two monthly meetings that I create the agenda for and chair. With all of these activities, it was all I could do to update my site in July to include all of the new items for Kit and Julie. One of my favorite parts of this site happens to be the Wish List, but it is also the hardest to update since it requires computer code to be painstakingly modified. I'd like to be able to update it soon, but it might not be for a month or so. Rest assured that the Wish List will be ready in time for the holidays!

  • July 1, 2008: Big News! The next American Girl movie will be based on Julie Albright the doll from 1970's San Francisco! Here's the text from the June 16th article on the Reelzchannel.com web site:

At a recent press day for Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas confirmed that there are indeed plans for more American Girl movies in the pipeline.

The next American Girl to see her story make it to film - Julie Albright. "We are developing the Julie character," Goldsmith-Thomas said, "and we're doing her as a musical, as a high school musical."

"We're going to have all those great songs from the '70s," she continued. "Julie: An American Girl Musical. It's [set] in San Francisco."

The movie is just in outline form as of now, so Goldsmith-Thomas was unable to confirm much more about it, but she did say the music will include both original songs written for the movie as well as music from the 1970s, and that they intend to do more open auditions like they did for Kit Kittredge. "Oh, you betcha," she said.

Also, Kit Kittredge has a new game for Nintendo DS!

  • June 29, 2008: I added the new Kit Movie Trading Cards to the Trading Cards page and to Kit's page. These cards sets were given out at a recent publishers convention, and it is not clear when they will become available online or in stores.

  • June 25, 2008: I added the new Kit Movie Trading Cards to the Trading Cards page and to Kit's page.

  • June 22, 2008: I added the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD to Kit's page.

  • June 12, 2008: Great News! Several of the girls are getting a bunch of new book items coming out in August. In addition, Kit is getting a new book Kit's World: A Girls-Eye View of The Great Depression, Julie is getting an Art Studio, a Fashion Studio and Paper Dolls. Finally, Samantha, Molly and Felicity are getting a Fashion Studio. I've added these new items to the respective girl's pages.

  • February 22, 2008: There are several new Julie and Girls of Today items. I've added Julie's Birthday Dress, Julie's 2-in-1 Summer Outfit & Roller Skates and Julie's Birthday Goodies to Julie's page. I also added the 2-in-1 Beach Outfit, Gardening Outfit, Skateboard Outfit, Tennis & Golf Set, Beach Chair & Bag, Garden Tote & Tools and the Skates & Safety Set to the Girls of Today (Just Like You) page.

  • January 19, 2008: There are some new Girls of Today items. I've added the Springtime Sundress, Flower Girl Outfit, Coconut Fun Outfit and Trellis Swing to the Girls of Today (Just Like You) and Wish List pages.

  • January 6, 2008: I've created the brand new Ruthie Smithens page which will be added to in the coming months as more items from her collection are announced. In addition to the new Ruthie book and the three new mysteries, this year brings a number of other new historical girl items. Kit and Julie will be getting Cooking Studios in February, Kit will get a Fashion Studio in May, and in June, Kit, Kaya and Josefina will be getting Frame Puzzles like Felicity, Samantha, Addy and Julie got in December. I've added these new items to the appropriate pages within this site.

  • January 2, 2008: Huge News!
As if there were any doubt, Ruthie Smithens will definitely be the next historical friend doll. She will be coming in May 2008 to coincide with the theatrical release of the Kit movie.

  • November 25, 2007: I've updated the historical doll pages to reflect the many, many retirements that occurred this year. The year 2007 was a terrible year for retirements. Many beloved historical items were eliminated including all of Addy's school story items, Felicity's original meet dress, Kirsten's Saint Lucia Tray, Molly's Christmas Stocking, Brown Oxfords and Trunk, Kit's Treehouse and Baseball Fan outfits, Sam's Lawn Party, Tea, Bird-Watching and Play outfits and her Horsedrawn Sleigh, all friend doll and movie trading card sets, all Short Story Collection books, all Mystery Party Games, all Adventure scrapbooks (Molly's Route 66, Sam's Ocean Liner, Kit's Railway) and almost every poster.

I also added several new items to the Girls of Today (Just Like You) page and I moved several retired outfits and items to the Retired Today Girl Items page.

  • November 23, 2007: The Girl of the Year for 2008 will be Mia St. Clair. She has red hair with a 'half-braid' on her right side. She comes wearing a pink shirt with snowflakes on it and a white skirt. She is wearing figure skates. She is a figure skater growing up with three brothers who all play hockey. She was unveiled on the November 21, 2007 episode of The Oprah Whinfrey Show.

  • November 6, 2007: A number of new Girls of Today Items items have been added and several modern and historical items have retired recently, and I realize that I haven't updated this site in a while. I lament the retirements - especially the Felicity, Samantha and Kirsten items. I usually try to add new items as soon as possible, but I often drag my feet when putting up the bad news of item retirements because I am an optimist. I have also been very busy lately (other projects, two daughters' high school Homecoming) and I hope to update the whole site including the Wish List this weekend. Everybody's patience is appreciated.

  • October 29, 2007: I updated this site to incorporate new graphics of Julie and Ivy and added links to Ivy's page from all other pages.

I also added this new series to the Card Trading Message Board so that girls can help each other complete their sets of 2007 trading cards.

Also, the release date for the new movie, "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Mystery" is July 2nd, 2008. That's only 309 days. Start the countdowns!

  • August 25, 2007: Official picture of Julie! A picture of Julie and Ivy was included in an article on today's New York Times online. Apparently, the two new girls and their items will debut September 10th. Pre-orders are being taken at AG Places for shippment on September 10th. Hey, the picture of the Julie doll I put together with Adobe PhotoShop (seen near the top of this page) doesn't look too far off!

There are also two new games: a new Trading Card Game and an American Girl Treasures Game. I've added these latter items to the Special Items page.

  • May 13, 2007: I've added a "Latest Kit Movie News" box to Kit's page containing all the news that's been released about the July 2, 2008 film.

  • May 4, 2007: Added information to the new Julie Albright page pertaining to her books. One of the new Julie books coming out August 20th is Good Luck, Ivy which features her Chinese American friend.

  • April 27, 2007: Fantastic News! Julie Albright, a brand new historical doll from 1974 will be released by American Girl in August 2007! She seems to come from San Francisco and has a briend, Ivy, who may live in Chinatown. I have added a notional page which will be added to as official and rumored information is available.

  • April 15, 2007: Great News! An official Press Release indicates that there will definitely be a theatrical AG film featuring Kit and that she will be played by Abigail Breslin (pictured). Abigail Breslin starred in the motion picture Little Miss Sunshine and she was nominated for an Academy Award for her excellent performance.

  • April 12, 2007: There will be some Major League Baseball promotions featuring American Girl items this season. Special American Girl doll-sized outfits will be given out to the first 5,000 girls, ages 14 and younger at the August 5th Chicago Cubs game against the New York Mets at Wrigley Field. No other team has announced an AG promo, so it might mean that the Cubs will be only one.

  • March 5, 2007: I updated Molly's Trading Cards and the AG Trading Cards pages to include pictures of each card in Molly's Movie card set.

  • February 25, 2007: Molly just got new items, a huge Camp Gowonagin tent, a pup tent for Bennet and a Sleeping bag. Emily also got a new 2-piece Swimsuit.

  • January 17, 2007: Good news to AG fans in the South! According to the Dallas Business Journal, an American Girl Boutique and Bistro is being built at the Galleria in Dallas and one is also going up in the Atlanta, Georgia's North Point Mall. These Boutique and Bistro's are a combination of store and cafe which are smaller that the American Girl Places and will not have theaters. The retail floorspace of these new stores will also be much smaller than that of their larger cousins in Chicago, New York and LA.

  • September 30, 2006: I added images of the new Today Girls and the new Today Girl outfits, accessory sets and furniture to the American Girls of Today page.

The last 2006 Major League Baseball season ballgame AG outfit giveaway took place at Yankee Stadium today. I updated the Major League Baseball portion of the Special Items page to show that all three of the 2006 ballgames with AG outfit giveaways have taken place. Hopefully, next year there will be four giveaway games since there should be a LA Dodgers giveaway to tie in with the new AG Place Los Angeles. Let's hope so!

  • September 6, 2006: I added images and details to Emily's Trading Card page about the newest trading card set.

Official mention and four pictures have been added to the official American Girl website.

  • July 23, 2006: Huge news! It seems that the next AG girl to be featured in a movie will be Kit Kittredge - and the film is slated for Movie Theaters! ComingSoon.net has the scoop which states that Walden Media is financing the live-action feature, which will be produced by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Marisa Yeres and Stephanie Langhoff through Goldsmith-Thomas Productions in association with Lisa Gillan from Julia Roberts' Red Om Films.

The site also mentioned the latest title of this Fall's Molly's movie, "Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front." This latest moniker seems more appropriate since Molly's backstory is best described as life on the home front rather than the events surrounding the eventual victory of the Allies over the Axis powers.

  • July 23, 2006: Added new pictures from "Molly: An American Girl Victory" to this page and to Molly's page.

  • June 27, 2006: There are new historical outfits and accessories! Samantha has a Bird-Watching Outfit with working binoculars, Kirsten has a Recess Set including an outfit and a beanbag toss game and Josefina has new Herb-Gathering Outfit with basket. This is especially good new for Josefina collectors since there has not been a new Josefina item since 2003's Weaving Outfit!

Molly's original bed which was introduced 20 years ago, has been retired in favor of a slightly redseigned bed which will be available for shipping September 6th or so. I updated Molly's and the Retired Items pages to reflect this change.

Lastly, Molly's Aviator Outfit and the Zip-Up Sweatsuit, Beachside Outfit and Spider Witch Costume for Dolls have all been retired.

  • June 13, 2006: American Girl Co. has made the very difficult business decision to close the American Girl Club which will officially end on August 15, 2006. • May 27, 2006: I added a new Molly movie item, Lights! Camera! Molly: A Behind-the-Scenes Movie Guide (ISBN: 1-59369-212-9) to Molly's page. The Pleasant Company Publications website was the source of this information, and it stated that the movie will be premiering in November!

I also updated the Special Items page to include Samantha's Trinket Box, made by Pleasant Company in the early 1990's.

  • May 9, 2006: It seems that Molly's Miss Victory costume has been retired. I noted this on Molly's page and the Retired Items page.

  • April 28, 2006: I am back from London and Paris! Kit's delightful Waffle Iron set has become sold out. I updated Kit's page and the Retired Items page to reflect this unfortunate turn of events.

  • April 17, 2006: I hope everybody had a good Easter. For Easter, I gave my daughters Kit's Scooter and outfit, Sam's Bike and outfit, Molly's skates and outfit, Addy's bed, Felicity's DVD with mini doll and several AGOT outfits. It was an AG Easter!

As everybody probably knows, AG Place Los Angeles opens this Thursday! It is located just 150 miles from my house, but I will not be able to attend the grand opening this weekend because I will be vacationing in England and France at that time. Even my daughters won't be able to attend because they will be in Las Vegas at their cheerleading competition finals. However, I will be at AG Place LA the following weekend, on April 30th. Maybe I'll see some of you there!

  • February 16, 2006: Sad news, indeed! It seems that all of the historical short story books have been retired. Kaya, Felicity, Josefina, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, Kit and Molly's short story books are gone from the online store. That's more than two dozen books retired at once!

  • February 14, 2006: There are new historical outfits and accessories! Other than the Card Trading Message Board, I haven't updated this site in over two months. This was because nothing noteworthy had happened in that time - No new items and no retirements. No new pages or features were added either because my job required me to go out of town several times and I also took week long training courses three times in the last few months.

  • September 25, 2005: As an aid to collectors, I added images of all 30 cards in Kit's 2001 Card Series to the Kit's Trading Cards page since due to their scarcity, this may be the only way many AG collectors will ever see them. Cards from Kit's 2001 series have been selling for almost $20 each.

  • May 26, 2005: Really Big News! The next American Girl Place will be located at The Grove in Los Angeles! That is just 145 miles from my house! Sweet!

Interesting News! According to American Girl Customer Service, the new Elizabeth doll will have blond hair and blue eyes. The full text from AG Customer Service has been posted on Felicity and Elizabeth's pages. I will use this new coloration to update the conjectural Elizabeth doll image that I have created as soon as possible.

The book has apparently just been removed from the online store.

Finally, I added some 1990's publications including the American Girls Teacher's Guides to the Special Items page. These can often be obtained on Ebay and from Amazon.com and are especially noteworthy because included with them is a folded Map of the particular girl's world.

Filtering and updating the many posts that are made every day was taking too much time and lately it has become a message board used for communication between individuals rather than a way for visitors to make comments on AG Collecting in general and this site in specific. This will leave me more time to create new pages for this site.

  • December 10, 2004: Good News! It appeared for a few days that Samantha and Nellie's Holiday Coats had been retired, but this is not the case! Both Samantha and Nellie's Holiday coats are, in fact, Seasonal products and they will be available once again in the Fall of 2005. That is according to the Online store. It seems that this fact was not fully explained to employees soon enough for them to be able to respond authoritatively to the understandable deluge of desperate phone calls that were received. Nellie will officially be introduced at a special sold-out party at American Girl Place in New York on June 18th, 2004. Her items are scheduled for official release in September.
